Demarco denies seeking attention from Popcaan feud [Video]

Prominent Dancehall singjay, Demarco has garnered mass attention across Jamaican music circles after recently calling out breakthrough Portmore Empire deejay, Popcaan. However, the True Friends singer isn’t doing it to raise his profile.

Last week, Demarco claimed in a Jamaica STAR articlethat Popcaan had stolen his style while intimating that the ‘Gaza Prefect’ is overrated and doesn’t have any lyrics. Over the last month, both artistes have traded lyrical jibes; from Demarco’s Kingston City on Rick Ross’ Stay Schemin’ beat to Popcaan’s Fry Yiy.

On Friday’s episode of TVJ’s Entertainment Report, Demarco continued his attack on Popcaan during an interview with Anthony Miller, implying that the Portmore Empire deejay sparks too much controversy with his lyrics while insisting that he’s prepared to return Dancehall music to its heights when Vybz Kartel and Mavado dominated the scene.

“Some new ute fi mek music act nice again too man.Yuh have di Mavado and di Kartel ting dem and music did nice dem time deh. Yuh need another set, so mi ready,” he said.

Demarco also dismissed thoughts regarding Popcaan’s growing status as an elite entertained, stating that the Gaza deejay’s long time mentor, Vybz Kartel remains a better deejay than his protégé despite being incarcerated.

“Kartel still madder dan him man…When Kartel come back, mi sorry fi him. All now him (Popcaan) no go look fi him daddy,” he said.

However, many fans across Dancehall circles have viewed Demarcos grouse with Popcaan as an attempt to raise his profile and gain mileage for his career. However, the talented singjay insists that given his strong catalogue of hits such as Fallen Soldiers, Standing Soldier and Love Me Life, he has no desire to ‘look a hype’ off this growing feud.

“How me a look a hype when mi international. Mi cyaah a look hype and mi international. Some a dem nuh even go a foreign yet…Mi deh every weh inna di whole world. Dem cyaah go some place…so mi cyaah look hype, a dem a look hype,” he said.

For Demarco, he’s not worried about a lyrical competition against Popcaan, who he challenged to answer his lyrical taunts.

“Him is not a problem, it’s not a problem.”
