Jamaica is blessed with an unlimited reservoir of talent. Though small yet huge in some retrospect, we have managed to produce musical greats time after time. With bragging rights in Sports, Tourism, Entertainment amongst other areas, it goes to show we are Nation too Blessed to be Stressed.
This week we turn the spotlight on Duane Besentie also known as Chozenn. A product of Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall a reality series which mandate is to seek, develop and expose youths who posses enormous talent in music and is poised for greatness.
Though the series has yet to see its finalists and or winners rise to stardom compared to Digicel Rising Stars which is another local show of same nature, which brags acts such Christopher Martin, Brown Sugar and One Third amongst others.
We've had the pleasure to speak with the act on several occasion and his personality, motivation are qualities and traits of a true artist.
"NAAH STOP TRY"
Chozenn in his own words: Duane Besentie (Chozenn) born on the 16th day of August 1984 to parents Sandra Stewart and Lewis Besentie both from the parish of Clarendon. Chozenn attended Frankfield Basic and Primary after which I left to live in Linstead, St.Catherine here I attended Linstead Primary and Junior High and started performing by doing my own little renditions of my mentor Beenie Man’s Hit Singles. Even back then the response was great from my audience of teachers and friends. I really began to take music seriously when I started Ewarton High School in St. Catherine doing concerts, socials, street dances and competitions. Then I was transferred from Ewarton High back to my birth parish Clarendon. It was here that I finished High School at Edwin Allen.
Since then I have done major shows like:
Boogle (Mr. Wacky) Memorial at Mas Camp
Macka Diamond’s Birthday Bash also at Mas Camp
Red Stripe as well as Fame Road Shows
Portland All Food Festival
West Kingston Jamboree
Invasion Spanish Town
Jamaica Jerk Festival at Ranny Williams
Curry Festival in Westmoreland
Cross Country Invasion
Haiti Relief Fund
And most recently Magnum King and Queens of Dancehall 2010 competition. Chozenn is an artiste that loves performing. I am currently working hard for my big break but I have songs percolating heavily in clubs, buses, taxis, parties etc.,
Music is my life and it inspires me to be the best that I can be. I’m a talented song writer, promoter/events coordinator and a father.
